KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Is Owasso graduate Dylan Bundy the minors' most exciting player?
The website, milb.com, is taking a poll that has six candidates for that title.
Reds shortstop prospect Billy Hamilton leads the voting at 44 percent (through Sunday night), followed by Orioles pitching prospect Bundy at 18 percent. Royals outfield prospect Wil Myers is at 15 percent, Rangers shortstop prospect Jurickson Profar and Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras are at 8 percent, with Red Sox pitching prospect Tony Cingrani at 5 percent.
All except Cingrani had a chance to make their case at the All-Stsr Futures Game on Sunday before a national television audience. All five who participated did something to help their cause. None were hurt by their performance.
Hamilton had a two-run triple, Profar went 2-for-3 with a homer, Myers went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Taveras went 1-for-3 with an RBI and was Myers, Profar and robbed of another hit, and Bundy worked a scoreless inning to gain the win.
For excitement, it's hard to top Hamilton's 104 stolen bases this season. Myers leads the minors in homers with 27. Profar had a 50-game on-base streak. Bundy did not allow an earned run in his first eight starts. Cingrani, now at Double-A, is 9-2 with a 1.28 ERA and a lot of strikeouts. Taveras was the U.S. Cellular Texas League All-Stsr Game MVP and could win the league's triple crown.
Taveras, Profar and Myers started this season in the TL...
It was disappointing to learn that former Drillers pitcher C.J. Wilson dropped out from playing in Tuesday's Major League All-Star Game due to a blister. Wilson misses a chance to atone for being the losing pitcher in last year's All-Stsr Game.
Wilson's exit leaves only three former Drillers in the All-Star Game -- all on the National League team: Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey, Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday and San Diego reliever Huston Street (only did a rehab stint with Tulsa).
