Former Drillers first baseman Carlos Pena picked up his 1,000th major league career hit Tuesday when he homered against the Angels. Pena, one of the majors' top home-run hitters over the past five years, has been a much better free-agent bargain for Tampa Bay this year than Albert Pujols has been for the Angels.
Pena is batting .284 with four homers and 13 RBIs while Pujols is at .222 with no homers and four RBIs.
