Colorado Rockies veterans Troy Tulowitzki and Jason Giambi concluded the Tulsa portion of their rehab assignments.

On Monday night, Tulowitzki homered and each had two hits in the Drillers’ 7-3 win over Northwest Arkansas at ONEOK Field.

Each played three games in their four days with the Drillers. Tulowitzki went 3-for-10 with two RBIs and Giambi had three hits in seven at-bats with a RBI.

Tulowitzki was used as the DH for the entire game on Monday while Giambi played first base before taken out after six innings.

Both will travel to Denver on Tuesday and likely continue their rehab assignments with Triple-A Colorado Springs for the next week. Tulowitzki, coming back from groin surgery, was running a little better Monday. Giambi is coming back from a viral infection.

Tulowitzki lined a single in his first at-bat and then crushed a fourth-inning homer that Drillers manager Duane Espy referred to as “a guided missile.”

“That was as hard and as far as you could hit a ball on a line,” Espy said.

The left-handed hitting Giambi’s two singles off lefty Mike Montgomery were line drives to the opposite field. For Giambi, the Naturals positioned their second baseman well into right field.

“They’re playing the biggest shift playing him to pull that I’ve ever seen and then he lines base hits to left field,” Espy said. “He’s just a professional hitter and he knows what he’s doing.

“They were fun guys to have around. They were so good the four days they were here with the team and it’s just teriffic to see them getting healthy.”

Espy said their example will help the younger Drillers.

“If nothing else they were able to see how you about your business the right way, something we talk about all the time,” Espy said. “Our players were able to see about how you go about being a professional. Those guys (Tulowitzki and Giambi) are pros and they came in here willing to participate in everything we ask them to do and share with the guys whenever they were asked.”

And Giambi and Tulowitzki signed plenty of autographs for Drillers fans...

Drillers right-hander Joe Gardner was named the Texas League’s pitcher of the week for Aug. 20-26. He won both his starts as he allowed only four hits and three runs in 13 1/3 innings...

It’s official, the Drillers will face Springfield in the North playoffs that start Sept. 5 at ONEOK Field. Springfield clinched the second-half title on Monday with a 4-3, 11-inning win over Arkansas.;;

Owasso’s Dylan Bundy had his third Double-A start pushed back another day and is now scheduled to pitch Tuesday for Double-A Bowie. His start was originally rained out on Sunday and then veteran Tommy Hunter pitched instead of Bundy and threw the team's first solo nine-inning shutout since 2009 on Monday.
