A funeral takes place in the play "August: Osage County" that is never seen on the stage. The movie, however, will deliver this dressed-in-black moment to audiences.

These scenes were shot last week in the area, and they offer the first photos of cast members Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor and Margo Martindale in character.

Yes, that is a dark wig that Meryl is wearing, and yes, those appear to be more than a few strands of gray in Julia's hair.

To put the photos in context: "August: Osage County" tells the story of an Oklahoma family coming together at a time of crisis in Tulsa native Tracy Letts' pitch-black comedy.

Streep plays Violet Weston, the family matriarch with an addiction to painkillers and a nasty mouth, while Roberts plays Barbara Fordham, Violet's oldest daughter.

McGregor plays Bill Fordham, the husband from whom Barbara is separated, and Martindale plays Mattie Fae Aiken, Violet's sister.

In the past week and a half, the production has filmed at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville (the scene: to identify a body), Johnson Funeral Home in Pawhuska (for the obvious) and at Ochelata First Methodist Church (more funeral filming).

The scene shoots are guesses of my own based purely on what occurs in the play - which takes place entirely in the Weston home.

So who dies? If you've seen or read the play, you already know. If you've heard even a hint of the synopsis, you may already know.

Let's put it this way: Those looking for star-sightings of Sam Shepard should know that he doesn't hang around for long.

"August: Osage County" is in its final week of filming exterior shots in Osage County before filming exclusively at the three-story house the production company purchased that is near the Kansas state line.

Filming is expected to last into late November.
