Broken Arrow school officials hope to return standout junior running back Devon Thomas to action “before the end of the season, but that is yet to be determined,” a spokesman said Monday.

Thomas missed the season opener at Owasso for undisclosed reasons and missed his second full game last Friday night as the second-ranked Tigers fell to Bentonville, Ark., 20-10.

“He will not be playing for a while, but he is not injured. We don’t want people fretting about injuries,” Tara Thompson, public information officer for the Broken Arrow Public Schools, told the Tulsa World.

She said Thomas would be out for an undetermined period of time. “There are a couple of variables, and some of it is dependent on him,” she said.

Thompson said the school disrtrict can’t comment on disciplinary matters involving minors.

Thomas is rated as the No. 1 player overall in the Tulsa World’s rankings of area high school football players. As the sophomore, he rushed for 1,840 yards and 22 touchdowns, helping lead the Tigers to a Class 6A runner-up finish.
