
A new season of "Doctor Who" is returning to BBC America, cable 176, in the fall. BBC
Britain's BBC is priming fans for the return of "Doctor Who" with a new trailer hinting at what's to come.
It's sneak peek at the episodes leading up to the exits of series regulars Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. The series kick offs a new season later this month in England and in the fall on BBCA in the United states.
The preview shows the sci-fi world of Who populated by a huge variety of Daleks, angels, dinosaurs "on a spaceship," a rideable triceratops, alien cowboys and giant Daleks who tell Dr. Who, played by Matt Smith, "We are cross with you."
For non-fans, Gilland and Darvill play the doctor's companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams, aka The Ponds. Smith is the 11th incarnation of the Time Lord known as Doctor Who in the series.
In the upcoming season 7, Alex Kingston, best known in the U.S., from NBC's "ER," returns as River Song. Guest stars this season will include Rupert Graves and Diana Rigg, will be appearing with her real-life daughter Rachael Stirling. Jenna-Louise Coleman is set to join the cast for its annual Christmas special, reported deadline.com.
The series, which is approaching its 50th anniversary and is a huge hit in the UK and with American TV viewers, follows the adventures of the Doctor, the mysterious traveler who journeys through time and space, with an ever-changing cast of companions and lots of danger.
BBC America, cable 176, is also airing a series of specials leading up to the new season. They include: "The Science of Doctor Who," 10 p.m. Saturday; "The Women of Doctor Who," 8 p.m. Aug. 11; "The Timey-Wimey Stuff of Doctor Who," 10 p.m., Aug. 18, and "The Destinations of Doctor Who," 8 p.m. Aug. 25.
According to BBCA, season 6 of "Doctor Who" was the most watched series ever on BBC America and the most downloaded on iTunes in the U.S, reported deadline.com.
