Dining along the Arkansas River inched a little closer last week. And I, for one, am more than ready.
The city Board of Adjustment approved a special exception that will allow owners of the Blue Rose Café to build their restaurant on the east bank of the river near 19th Street and Riverside Drive.
Many of you will remember the original Blue Rose and its excellent food that was a popular spot in Brookside.
The new restaurant will be about 2,600 square feet and have seating for 90 people indoors and 110 to 120 outdoors. It will have floor-to-ceiling windows and a 12-foot water wall at the entrance. Extra parking also is planned.
This might be the start of private investment along the river that we have all hoped for. With the improvements along RiverParks, paid for mostly by the George Kaiser Family Foundation and the new amenities at 41st Street and Riverside sponsored by the QuikTrip Corp., things are continuing to look up.
In other news, the new ONEOK Field that will host the Tulsa Drillers baseball team is on schedule for completion next spring and under budget.
Along with the highly successful BOK Center, the corridor between the river and all of downtown is now more of a possibility than ever before.
The restaurant is scheduled to open in February and I'm ready to have a burger and watch the river roll by. But in February, maybe indoors.
