Ben Affleck will be the third Oscar winner to play Batman, taking the keys to the Batmobile from Dark Knight Christian Bale. With hope, Affleck's turn as the Caped Crusader will go better than that of George Clooney in 1997's "Batman and Robin."

The next Caped Crusader has been revealed to the world, and he is an Academy Award winner.

Warner Bros. revealed last night that Ben Affleck, star and director of the Academy Award-winning film "Argo" and star of superhero movie "Daredevil," will once again take on the role of a superhero as the studio has chosen him to play Batman in the upcoming sequel to "Man of Steel."

“Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne.” said Warner Bros. in an official press release. “Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in “Man of Steel.”

This announcement comes off the heels of the reveal at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con that the Man of Steel sequel would feature Batman and could perhaps have a working title of “Batman vs. Superman.”

Henry Cavill has already signed on to reprise his role as Superman in the upcoming sequel, alongside Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

“We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.’ remarkable legacy with the character of Batman,” said Sue Kroll, president of Warner Bros.' Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution. “He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes.”
