This is part of the opening weekend of the college football season that runs five days, Thursday through Monday, Aug. 29 through Sept. 2.
This opening barrage of excellence makes the Thanksgiving weekend look foul, makes the bowl season pale.
It's the best opening of any season ever.
And to coincide with the big weekend, don't forget that the biggest beat the Picker contest ever starts Monday, Aug. 26 with a list of 16 fantastic college games. Our first Picker column with nicknames, proclamations, impressions and predictions will appear Thursday the 29th of this month.
Picks can be done without or without the point spread. Picks done without the point spread will be done for bragging rights.
Picks done against the point spread will compete for the best prizes ever, a top-of-the line outdoor grill from Metro Outdoor Living, and $50 weekly gift certificates for automotive service from Classic Chevrolet. The grill is worth more than $1,000 and says, "Let's have a party." The $50 weekly prizes are an important addition. In the past, all of you who threw in a 1-15 record one week were pretty much cooked for the season. Now all a 1-15 or 2-14 record means is you couldn't do much worse. You can enter the next week and win!
This picking contest is popular throughout the country and beyond. Last year's top prize was won by a man from Washington state. Doesn't anybody around here know football? Come on people, game up.
