As expected, running back Joseph Randle, offensive lineman Lane Taylor and defensive end Cooper Bassett are at the Westin Galleria representing Oklahoma State at the Big 12’s football media days.

So what’s Richetti Jones doing in the interview room? Wasn’t he a senior last season?

Jones didn’t petition the NCAA for another year of eligibility. He’s petitioning -- or auditioning -- to be a member of the media.

A Dallas native, Jones is tagging along with OSU’s sports information personnel at the media function so he can be seen and heard and perhaps make a few connections that will allow him to pursue a media career.

“It’s a great opportunity,” OSU football publicist Gavin Lang said.

Standing nearby, Jones said, “OSU takes care of their guys, life after football.”

Incredibly well-spoken, Jones ultimately wants to be on TV. Again. He was on the ESPNU reality show “Summer House” before coming to OSU.

While at the Big 12’s media days, Jones is picking spots to interview current Cowboy players for okstate.com. He interviewed Taylor during a lull in the radio interview room Tuesday morning and hit him up with playful questions (who is the new locker room DJ? what’s the most-played song in the locker room?) before getting down to more serious business.

I’m not a football talent scout and don’t pretend to be. But my best bet is that Jones, given a media opportunity, could become a star.
