Union's running back depth was on display in Friday's 59-7 win at Sand Springs.

Three running backs combined with quarterback Hunter Atyia in helping the Redskins pile up 363 rushing yarda, averaging almost 10 yards per attempt.

Most of it came from sophomore Terrel Buchanan, who totaled a career-high 187 yards on just eight carries.

But starting tailback Justin Silmon, a junior, totaled 68 yards on 10 carries and senior Derek Finch had a big fourth quarte, rushing for 65 yards and one TD on seven carries.

"We have a lot of depth at running back. We feel like we can win with anyone of them," said Atyia, who totaled 42 yards and scored on 14- and 10-yard runs.

Watching Buchanan for the first time was a treat. He raced 69 yards to set up on a touchdown on his first carry of the game and went 83 yards for a score on his fourth carry. In both cases, Buchanan raced through gaping holes and was in a footrace once he hit the secondary.

"The offensive line did a great job. It's a great opportunity being able to play for Union," he said.

The 5-foot-10, 178-pounder isn't exactly new on the scene. He rushed for 471 yards as a freshman last year, delivering a previous career high of 130 in a playoff win over Edmond North. ESPN.com labeled him "one of the best freshmen in the nation."

Buchanan has already received recruiting attention, hearing from the likes of Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
