Talk about a blast from the past.

With pop icon Britney Spears, 30, set to debut as a judge on "The X Factor" tonight on Fox, go back and watch her when she was on the other side of the judging desk.

Back in 1992, she was a 10-year-old competitor belting out "Love Can Build a Bridge" in the junior vocalist category on "Star Search." Her competition was a 12-year-old Marty Thomas, who has since become a Broadway performer, according to huffingtonpost.com. He won. She lost.

But viewers and host Ed McMahon were charmed by the talented youngster from Kentood, La.

"I noticed last week you have the most adorable, pretty eyes," commented McMahon. "You have a boyfriend?"

"No sir," she answered.

"Why not?" he asked.

"They're mean!" she replied, drawing a laugh from the audience.

Spears is reportedly being paid $15 million to appear on one season of "The X Factor," returning for its second season at 7 p.m. Wednesday on Fox, channel 23, cable 5.
