Burn ban map as of 3:50 p.m. Monday. Notice who isn't included: Tulsa.

After wonderfully pleasant weather last weekend, summer is back at least for a few days.

Well, it’s not actually back. Fall officially began this weekend, and while the beginning of the season has more to do with the position of the Earth in its trip around the sun and less to do with the weather, it will again be warm this week.

How warm? We’re forecast to reach the low 90s today and again tomorrow. With high winds and low humidity also forecast, fire danger is up today, prompting the National Weather Service to issue red flag warnings.

Despite the warnings and fire danger, the Tulsa County Commissioners allowed the county burn ban to expire today. Tulsa County is now without burning restrictions for the first time since July 6. During most of that time—from Aug. 3 to Sept. 17—Tulsa County was included in the statewide burn ban. That ban includes 55 counties still, and four counties have their own burn bans in effect right now, including Creek County.

So, Red Flag Warning for Tulsa County, with 20 mph gusts and low relative humidity and high temperatures lead to the burn ban expiring? Sure....makes sense.

But, ah ha: The people who make these decisions are at least a little bit more forward thinking when making these decisions. Fire danger may be high today, but it will diminish much of the rest of the week, when rain chances creep into the forecast and hang around for a while. Along with the rain chances, temps will drop and we will get back to more normal weather for late-September/early-October. Hooray!
