, catch a buzz with three up-and-coming acts -- Tulsa's
Callupsie, Oklahoma City's
El Paso Hot Button, and Hot Springs, Ark.'s
Church of the Snake.
Each band is uniquely energetic and infectiously rambunctious in their own ways.
This year's Spot Music Award Rising Star winners, poppy/jazzy/big beat band Callupsie, will perform with one-man band and rock 'n' roll avalanche Mickey Reece, aka EPHB, with special guest, the nebulous, grimy, noisy rock of Church of the Snake.
Big things are happening with these bands. Callupsie is planning a CD release in December, with the 10-track, yet-to-be-titled album recorded entirely at Armstrong studio in Tulsa, by Stephen Egerton of the Descendents. Bill Stevenson (Black Flag) and Jason Livermore (Drag the River) will master the record at the Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, Colo., according to the band's Web site. Stevenson and Livermore have mastered such bands as the Lemonheads, NOFX, Descendents, Rise Against and Alkaline Trio.
Reece (EPHB) recently released his best work to date, "When I Needed Sympathy," a dark, pounding, dissonant testament to rock 'n' roll. His sound is Quintron and Miss Pussycat meets White Stripes meets '70s era art punk -- and it's phenomenal.
Tickets are $5. Doors open at 8 p.m. at the Continental Club, First Street and Elgin Ave.
