The December issue of Consumer Reports gave its top chocolate chip cookie rating to Tate's Bake Shop, a gourmet bakery located in Southampton, N.Y.
The magazine said Whole Foods was among the outlets that carry the cookies, but a spokesman for the Tulsa Whole Foods store informed me Tate's Bake Shop items are not available here and currently can't be ordered for this market.
It is an expensive way to go, but the cookies may be ordered online at the Tate's Bake Shop website at tulsaworld.com/tatesbakeshop.
The magazine tested 18 store-bought and fast-food chocolate chip cookies and found most of the packaged cookies they tried, including top seller Nabisco Chips Ahoy, were just average.
Three fast-food cookies from Starbucks, McDonald's and Subway were rated Very Good, and Dunkin' Donuts Triple came in a bit lower.
Per cookie, Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts have far more calories than the others, but their cookies are about three times as large.
Weight Watchers, the cookie with the least fat and fewest calories, was the lowest-rated cookie of all. Well, duh?
