An anonymous caller who left a message on my phone this morning didn’t like my blog about The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City’s newspaper, declining to run an ad from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

In the interest of airing everyone's opinions, here's her call, word for word:

“Good morning Bill Sherman. I just read your blog and I wanted to address a few things for you. One, you’re not a religion writer, you’re a Christian writer. Two, I get that it’s a blog and you’re allowed to infuse your opinion into it, but you sound like an absolute idiot.

“Would you use a ‘Christian agenda’ when talking about your little friends with their imaginary friend that you eat his imaginary body and blood to live forever in the sky? No. You wouldn’t. You’d call it a religion not an agenda.

“Second of all, the pagan festivals that are now known as Christmas in America are not supposedly usurped by the Christians, they were absolutely stolen by the Christians, and that’s the reason you celebrate your imaginary friend’s birthday in a season that never would have happened the way you guys tell your story. It’s fascinating that you have an imaginary friend, and I wish you all the best of luck with that, but when you call yourself a religion writer, you really need to rephrase that and call yourself and Christian writer.

“I hope you have an awful day. Thank you.”
