Tom Cruise as '80s rock icon performing in this summer's "Rock of Ages."
Apparently the people who have seen Tom Cruise's performance in this summer's "Rock of Ages," in which he plays a 1980s hard-rocking singer, want to see more of him rocking out.
Multiple Hollywood news outlets are reporting that Cruise is being sought for this package: a modern update of "A Star is Born," featuring Cruise as the has-been singer who falls for a younger woman and then helps to launch her singing career.
The woman in this case would be played by Beyonce, sources are saying, in a film to be directed by Clint Eastwood.
"A Star is Born" is a Hollywood staple filmed three times previously, but it was last released in 1976.
The 1937 original starred Fredric March and Janet Gaynor; Judy Garland and James Mason headlined the 1954 version; Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand were paired for the 1976 film, for which Streisand won a Best Song Academy Award for "Evergreen."
According to deadline.com, everyone from Russell Crowe to Will Smith to Eminem to Christian Bale have been linked to this role in the past, with Beyonce's pregnancy delaying movement on the project in the last year.
So who knows where this is headed or whether Cruise is interested.
But for a glimpse of Cruise in rock-star mode, check out the trailer for "Rock of Ages," based on the Broadway musical hit, which is due to be released on June 15.
