From Rick Horton, founder of nonprofit Cancer Sucks, a local organization that works its tail off to raise money for cancer research and awareness. The annual Cancer Sucks fundraiser concert at Cain's Ballroom on Nov. 23 featured some 10 local bands and three regional and national acts, and was a smashing success.
When everybody comes together to donate time and effort, everybody wins!
"Thank You very much for the awesome support you gave us in The Spot last week! ... I cannot thank you enough for your support on this event and helping us raise $7746.00 for the American Brain Tumor Association.
This amount added to our total donations made this year will put CANCER SUCKS over $50,000 we have donated to cancer research in 2007. This amount is the most we have ever donated in a calendar year.

All funds from year's show were dedicated to the American Brain Tumor Association, in the memory of Jan Dean and in honor of Amber, assistant program director, morning radio producer and host of the metal/screamo/ hardcore show, “Unauthorized Airplay,” that is broadcast on Z104.5 the Edge.
Dean, a longtime Tulsa radio personality and mentor to many in the field, died from a brain tumor earlier this year at age 48. Amber survived brain cancer.
