Catoosa High School will host the Green Country All-Star Games that start with boys and girls basketball on Thursday night.
The girls game is at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 8.
Players scheduled to participate in the boys game include Oologah’s Kaleb Hotfelt and Tyler Brunk, Claremore Sequoyah’s Brett Price and Verdigris’ Jordan Keith and Erich Reif, and Chouteau’s Dwight McElroy and Josh Shive, and Lincoln Christian’s Jake Provance. Among the players scheuled to compete in the girls game are Catoosa’s Kayla Hall, Claremore’s Miranda Taylor and Claremore Sequoyah’s Paige Eaton.
On Friday, the softball game is scheduled at 10 a.m., followed by the baseball game at 2 p.m.
Seniors from 21 area schools will compete. Tickets for each event are $5 with children under 12 admitted free.
Proceeds benefit Volunteers for Youth, which serves public school students through mentoring and safe and structured school activities...
During Catoosa’s school board meeting on Monday, Ron McHenry received a plaque to honor his 50 years of coaching.
McHenry, a former longtime Coweta football coach, has been a lay assistant football coach at Catoosa for several years and has helped Catoosa reach the Class 4A semifinals the past two seasons.
“He does more than just help out,” Catoosa activities director Tony Martray said.
McHenry was elected to the Oklahoma Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame in 1999...
Union football coach Kirk Fridrich complimented his players for their effort in Wednesday’s practice -- a day after classes were completed for the spring semester.
“We moved up practice to noon and everything was kind of a change today,” Fridrich said. “Expectations here at Union are pretty high so we didn’t really expect them not to show up but I understand how hard it is.
"It’s summertime and we’re doing football while some other kids are having pool parties. But it's important to our kids and we’re excited about the tempo we had.”
