Hats off to the guests and staff at Michael V’s, 8222 E. 103rd St., for making my stint as celebrity waiter for Tuesday night’s Restaurant Week event so enjoyable and worthwhile.

I was basically in the way when I ventured into the kitchen, but I successfully navigated the correct kitchen doors – entrance and exit – avoiding what no doubt would have resulted in an ugly collision.

Chef-proprietor Michael Minden and wife Carol couldn’t be there due to a family matter, but the restaurant’s veteran staff didn’t miss a beat. Those who made the evening fun and informative were manager Augie, sous chef Amy, kitchen staff Zack and Chloe, dishwasher John, hostess Laura and servers Rick, Adam, Tiffany and Kyle.

Michael V’s customers purchased 22 special Restaurant Week dinners, 10 percent of which goes to the the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma’s Food for Kids program. Generous diners tipped me an additional $211 over and above what they tipped their servers, and that amount also goes to the charity.

Restaurant Week proceeds will be matched by the George Kaiser Family Foundation up to $25,000.

The lunch menus are priced at $12.95 per person, and dinner menus will be offered at three price points: $25 per person, $35 per person and some places $35 for two. Each meal will feature an appetizer, entree and dessert, and all prices exclude tax, gratuity and beverage.

Restaurant Week continues through Sunday.
