Chuy's, the Tex-Mex restaurant founded in Austin, Texas, in 1982, is coming to south Tulsa.

The restaurant is moving into space at 10808 E. 71st St., formerly occupied by New World Chinese Buffet.

I went by Thursday, and it looks as though remodeling is just getting under way. Workers were putting debris from inside the building into trash haulers.

According to information pulled from Chuy's website, Chuy's strives to deliver authentic flavors from Santa Fe, N.M., through the Hatch Valley, along the western border towns of Texas and New Mexico and into the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas.

"Our Green Chile recipe comes from Espanola, New Mexico; our Ranchero Sauce was founded in Del Rio, Texas, and our Tomatillo Sauce originated in Donna, Texas," according to company literature. "Our Fajita marinade was created by some ranch hands on a farm near Boca Chica Beach, at the mouth of the Rio Grande."

An opening date is undetermined.
