Answering a question from a reader about how tulsaworld.com compares to its competition.

"I haven't looked at the latest numbers but last time I looked what I saw was an uptick in viewers at other local and statewide media outlets that I can only attribute to the pay-wall. Can/would you shed some light on how your viewership here has been since the change, up, down, same?" -- Hijinx

Thanks for the question. Since April 2011 when we launched our metered model -- where non-subscribers get 10 free page views on stories every 30 days -- tulsaworld.com has had more unique visitors than other local media outlets combined.

Here is the latest comparision using numbers from quantcast.com:

Tulsaworld.com: 1,110,829 monthly unique visitors
Newson6.com: 425,529 monthly unique visitors
KJRH.com: 192,438 monthly unique visitors
Fox23.com: 152,621 monthly unique visitors
KTUL.com: 109,042 monthly unique visitors

Not sure what your source is where you saw an uptick, but we trust these numbers since each site is quantified with quantcast.com, meaning that they are all using the same code to track traffic.

In addition to more unique monthly visitors than the rest of those sites combined, we also have continued to see the number of visits to our site increase since the launch of our metered model last April.

Instances of people clicking on our story links posted to Facebook and Twitter have also continued to increase each month. Actually, we have broken our previous record for the past six months after starting a new social media strategy.

With our digital products and newspaper, more than half a million adults read the Tulsa World each week. We are proud of that number and no other media can compare.
