Nimrod International Journal’s annual Conference for Readers and Writers will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the University of Tulsa's Allen Chapman Activity Center.
The theme is “It’s in the Cards: The Meeting of Risk and Skill,” and the event will feature nationally known writers and newly discovered award-winners.
Participants will be offered the opportunity to work with more than 40 distinguished authors. Guests include such celebrated authors as New York Times bestselling author Gail Carriger, acclaimed novelist and short story writer Pam Houston, memoirist and children’s writer Mira Bartók, award-winning poet Kate Kingston, novelist Jack Smith, former Oklahoma Poet Laureate Francine Ringold and local young adult fantasy writer Eilis O’Neal.
The conference will feature masterclasses, readings and panel discussions. Classes on poetry, fiction, memoir, steampunk, using new media in poetry, and finding a literary agent will be offered. Most sessions will also include writing exercises, and all will have time for questions.
The cost of the conference is $50, which includes lunch. Full and partial scholarships are also available, but each participant must register. Professional development credit is available for Tulsa Public School teachers.
