Highly regarded recruit Courtney Gardner announced via Twitter that he will not play football at Oklahoma.
Gardner’s account (@CG_Equals_TD) had this Tweet: “SORRY TO INTERRUPT EVERYONE’S BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY BUT I WILL NOT BE ATTENDING THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLHAOMA !!”
Gardner followed with “Y’all MAYBE MAD BUT IM DECIDING TO ENTER (THIS) YEARS NFL DRAFT SORRY!!”
Gardner, a 6-3, 215-pound wide receiver, initially signed with the Sooners on Feb. 1 but faced academic hurdles out of Sierra (Calif.) College. He didn’t complete a required class to join the team this season, but was expected to enroll at OU in January.
Gardner isn’t playing football this fall, but had 1,099 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns at Sierra in 2011.
