Actress Paget Brewster is turning in her badge on CBS' "Criminal Minds."
Pageant, who co-stars as the Behavior Analysis Unit's Emily Prentiss, has announced she will leave the show at the end of the season, according to deadline.com.
"After six wonderful years playing Emily Prentiss, I have decided it's time for me to move on," she said in a statement to the Web site. "As much as I will miss my 'Criminal Minds' family, I am excited about the future and other opportunities."
She notified the producers of her decision on Tuesday reported the Web site.
Two years ago, the actress was asked to reduce her appearances on the show and her friend A.J. Cook was let go from the series. Instead, according to the Web site, she appeared in every episode last season and Cook returned to the show. She also starred in an NBC pilot for a series so the "Criminal Minds" writers prepared a cliff-hanger for her in case the network picked up the show. But it didn’t so ABC Studios, producer of "CM," used its option to bring her back for another season of "CM."
The actress told TV Guide recently that she was surprised by that move.
"They said, 'You're back!' I had another year on my contract that I didn’t know about, so I had to come back! I said, 'Hey, I kinda want an apology and maybe a raise.' And they were like, 'No, we'll sue you!'” Brewster said with a laugh.
"The whole thing was, unfortunately, a mess. It was dumb. They thought they would save money by getting rid of us … and in the end got both of us back."
