Keith Jimerson stands in front of Elmer's BBQ.

Of course, the OU-Texas football game is the big news in Dallas this week, but it isn't the only competition pitting the good guys against those heathens to the south.

Keith Jimerson of Elmer's BBQ in Tulsa, Charles Smith of Leo's BBQ in Oklahoma City, Jev Vandegrift of Van's Pig Stand in Shawnee and Joe Wells of Smokin' Joe's Rib Ranch in Davis will go against four Texas pitmasters Thursday and Friday in the Texas/Oklahoma Red River Barbecue Shootout.

One winner from Oklahoma and one one from Texas will be chosen in a blind tasting by judges Thursday night, and the two will complete Friday at the Main Street Garden, St. Paul and Main streets. The winner will be decided by people's choice votes and win $1,000 and bragging rights for his state.

The event, which will include music from Dallas' Eleven Hundred Springs, Norman's Damn Quails and Austin's Back Porch Mary, will run 5-10 p.m. Friday at Main Street Garden. Parking is available in public garages downtown.

Food, beer, wine and margaritas will be available for purchase. The event is free and open to the public, and people are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the concerts.

Go Keith!!!!!!!!!!
