Tulsa sophomore David Wishon has asked for his release to transfer, coach Danny Manning said during a Thursday night meet-and-greet session with season ticket holders and Golden Hurricane club members.
Wishon would be the third player to depart the TU program during the offseason. Early speculation is that he’s targeted College of Charleston, which is coached by former Hurricane coach Doug Wojcik.
Wishon is a 7-foot-2 post player who played in 14 games before having season-ending foot surgery. He averaged 0.9 points and 0.8 rebounds per game, averaging just 3.7 minutes a contest.
Wishon is from Concord, N.C., which is located about four hours from College of Charleston.
Losing Wishon could be a hit for Tulsa’s frontcourt, especially with 6-11 junior Kodi Maduka’s future currently unknown. Maduka collapsed during a pickup game in early April and may not return because of health issues.
If Maduka doesn’t return, the tallest players on TU’s roster next season would be sophomore Blondi Baruti and incoming freshman D’Andre Wright. Both are 6-8.
Tulsa lost guards Jordan Clarkson (Missouri) and Eric McClellan (Vanderbilt) earlier this week.
Tulsa would have three scholarships available for next season and one more for the 2013-14 season.
