Michael Sager predicts the new S&J Seafood Cafe & Oyster Bar might open in early August. Tulsa World file

Michael Sager, who owns a number of properties in the Blue Dome District, said Tuesday night that he expects to see a much different style of restaurant developed in the current Blue Dome Diner space.

"I'm going to take off part of the face of the building to create a covered outdoor dining space," Sager said. "We will do some cool stuff."

It previously was announced the Blue Dome Diner, 313 E. Second St., will close July 29. Its lease was not renewed.

Since then rumors have swirled that some heavy hitters are interested in taking over the space.

"Absolutely, that's true," Sager said. "I can't say who yet, but the interest has been unbelievable."

Sager also said don't be surprised to see another Blue Dome Diner emerge some day.

"I own the name Blue Dome Diner, and I will open one in the future," Sager said. "It will be small and eclectic, with different operators and in a different place, but it still will be in the Blue Dome District."

Meantime, Sager said he expects the new S&J Seafood Cafe & Oyster Bar to open soon at 320 E. First St.

"It's near to getting the interior paint job done," Sager said. "The kitchen is installed, the walkins and fixtures are all in. I think it has a chance to open in early August."

S&J Oyster operated in various locations from 1983 to 2004. Founder Howard Smith has been serving as a consultant to the new ownership group, headed by Bill Parkey.

Sager is developing First Street Lofts above the restaurant and a liquor store, Whiskey Business, that occupy the ground floor.
