The Drum Day 2011 Food Drive to benefit The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma is 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at the John Q. Hammons Arena at Union Multipurpose Activity Center at 68th Street and Mingo Road.

Drummers “stick it to hunger,” with celebrity drummers and drum kits galore. Food donations are accepted. In fact, Drum Day Tulsa has collected nearly 27,000 pounds of food in recent years. A canned good is the only cost of admission or participation.

Drum Day has spearheaded an event to help feed hungry people in the Tulsa community and has now grown into one of the largest charity drives in the country and world’s largest multi-city drumming.

With approximately 2,500 participants in The Big Beat all cities are watching each other “live” while playing the same beat simultaneously for five minutes. “I cannot describe the feeling you get hearing hundreds of drums in the same room,” said Drum Day founder Mike DePetrillo in a press statement.

The Tulsa event has attracted celebrity appearances from David Teegarden (Grammy winner and drummer for Bob Seger), Jason from Caroline’s Spine, Hank Williams lll’s drummer and Boomer from Crooked X.
