Tulsa Public Schools athletic director Gil Cloud said that a statement on whether East Central will have to forfeit its 33-12 victory over Central on Sept. 21 will be made on Monday morning.
Second-ranked East Central (5-0, 2-0 in District 5A-4) may have to forfeit due to the use of an unidentified player who may have been ineligible.
On Friday, Cloud met with East Central administrators, coach Bobby Klinck and the player involved.
“We’re gathering information and we’ll issue a statement Monday on what our findings were,” Cloud said on Friday afternoon.
Because it was a 5A-4 game, a forfeit could hurt East Central’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs and help Central (0-5, 0-2).
The ruling on whether it will be a forfeit will be handled by TPS and not the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association because the game involves two district schools and is a district eligibility matter. OSSAA associate secretary David Jackson said that the OSSAA was aware of the situation and expecting a report from Cloud.
Klinck said after East Central's 35-28 win over Coweta on Friday night about what he told the team when the forfeit possibility arose:
“We talked about consequences. When you break the rules whether purposely or by accident, and obviously this was by accident, there are consequences. We talked about it and said, `Hey you know what, we’re going to move on and we can’t look back on it now. These kids are fighters."
