Edgar Meyer, who was scheduled to perform in two concerts at this year’s OK Mozart International Festival in Bartlesville, has had to cancel his Oklahoma appearance.

Meyer said unexpected scheduling conflicts are preventing him from performing at OK Mozart, which opens its 28th season Friday at the Bartlesville Community Center.

In a statement released by OK Mozart Wednesday, Meyer said, “I truly regret not being able to perform at the OK Mozart festival this year. I have loved being part of past festivals, and was greatly looking forward to the opportunity once again of playing chamber music with dear friends and to perform with the remarkable Amici New York Orchestra and Maestro James Bagwell. I greatly hope to be able to return to OK Mozart in the near future.”

Meyer was to be part of the Spencer Prentiss Classical All-Stars chamber music concert on June 12, and was to be the featured soloist in his latest composition, the Concerto No. 3 for Doublebass and Orchestra in E, for the June 13 concert.

Both concerts will be presented, but with slightly different programs. At the June 13 concert, the Amici New York orchestra will perform the Symphony in C by Igor Stravinsky, along with the previously announced works, the Overture to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Mendelssohn, and the Requiem by Mozart.

OK Mozart executive director Shane Jewell said, “This is just the nature of these things. We have the utmost respect for Edgar and know this was not an easy decision for him to make.

“It is obviously a big disappointment for us and all the fans that had planned to see Edgar this year,” Jewell said. “Fortunately, we have hundreds of other great performers and many of the world’s most talented musicians on the bill for the festival, so the show goes on.”

OK Mozart will be giving refunds/exchanges to anyone who has purchased tickets to either of Meyer’s performances. Current ticket holders who wish to return or exchange their tickets should call OK Mozart at 918-336-9900/
