Ewan McGregor
Ewan McGregor is the newest name to join the all-star cast of "August: Osage County," several Hollywood trade magazines announced Wednesday, and he will play the husband of Julia Roberts' character in the film that starts shooting in Oklahoma later this month.
The movie is based on Tulsa native Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize-winning family drama/scathing comedy based on a Pawhuska clan falling apart when the patriarch disappears.
Meryl Streep plays Violet, the man's cancer-ridden, drug-addicted wife, and Julia Roberts plays Barbara, her oldest daughter.
McGregor will play Bill, the estranged husband of Barbara and the father of their 14-year-old pot-smoking daughter, who is being played in the movie by Abigail Breslin.
McGregor is as well-known for his leading roles in Oscar-nominated films like "Moulin Rouge!" and "Big Fish" as he is for his appearances in indie films like "Trainspotting" and "Beginners."
His most widely-seen role is that of a young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the newer trilogy of "Star Wars" films by George Lucas.
The casting of McGregor leaves one major role -- that of Ivy, the Weston family's middle of three daughters -- still to be announced less than two weeks before the start of filming at a house in the Pawhuska area.
