For former Oklahoma State player Keiton Page, the anticipation of attending basketball camps as a youngster was similar to the night before Christmas.
“For some kids, the fun of summer vacation was going to the waterpark, but for me it was going to basketball camps — that was always my favorite thing,” said Page, who was the Tulsa World’s state co-player of the year with Rotnei Clarke in 2008 before playing four years at OSU, where he finished as the school’s seventh all-time leading scorer and leader in minutes played.
Page is conducting camps in his first summer after the end of his college playing career. The Berryhill Basketball Camp for boys and girls entering grades 2-8 is scheduled June 25-27 at Berryhill High School will feature Page. For more information or to register, contact Berryhill coach Brad Holland at 918-625-2220.
Last week, Page held his first camp at Morrison.
“It was a lot of fun,” Page said. “I’ve been going to basketball camps all my life, starting when I was 3 going to the Oklahoma Christian Cage Camp. I learned so much listening to (OCC) Coach (Dan) Hays and at all the camps.”
Basketball camps have always been a family affair for Keiton, who will be assisted by his father, David, and brother, Brady. David Page is Pawnee’s head coach and Brady is Hennessey’s head coach.
On July 9-11, the Keiton Page Skills Camp for grades 2-8 will be held at Bartlesville Mid-High. For more information, contact Brady Page at 405-714-8305. Keiton also will be holding a camp at Woodward on June 18-20. The cost of each camp is $100 and enrollment is limited to 100.
Keiton has been teaching basketball for severay years, going back to when he was a high school player at Pawnee helping his dad and at OSU camps.
“I’ve got a passion to always be around the game of basketball,” Keiton said on Monday while he was giving lessons at his high school alma mater.
Keiton set the single-season state high school scoring record with 1,287 points in 2007-08 and finished as the state’s No. 2 career scorer with 3,709 points after helping Pawnee win two state titles.
