So I may be getting ahead of myself here, but now that we’re in September, football season has begun and high temperatures are forecast to be in the low 80s Monday, I am officially excited about autumn.

The season won’t change until Sept. 23 (the autumnal equinox, at 9:04 a.m.), but that doesn’t mean I can’t eagerly anticipate its arrival.

Here are just a few reasons why I love fall:

  • Usually by this time of the year, the hot weather and I are fighting. And I don’t even care if I see it again for more than half a year.

  • Football season (haha. See what I did there? Naw, but seriously.)

  • The annual Turkey Trot Festival in Yellville, Ark., where they throw live turkeys out of airplanes. Right?! Also, lots of other festivals in and around Tulsa.

  • Sweaters

  • Foliage

And now you’re excited as well, I hope. So much to look forward to!

But, wait a minute. It’s still summer until Sept. 23. So while the forecast looks amazing next week, it is still very possible to have very hot temperatures this month. This is Oklahoma, after all.

Record highs exceeding 100 go until mid-September, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility for Tulsa to see more, especially with this summer’s absurdity.

So while you are still sweating at your Labor Day weekend cook-outs today and tomorrow, when temperatures are forecast to exceed or come very close to 100, just look at your calendar and think, “Almost…there.”

Also, while I have you here, here is the weekly drought update. The news is the same, which is bad news.
