‘Rachel Green’ is getting married!
Not that marriage is or has to be the end game for any woman, but for
Jennifer Aniston, whose name we’ve seen periodically splashed in headlines about failed connections with this celeb and that, seeing the “Friends” star headed toward the altar again is refreshing news.
Sunday, reps for
Wanderlust co-stars Aniston, 43, and
Justin Theroux, 41, announced the couple is getting married. The two have been an item since last May,
People magazine reports, despite rumors as recently as last week that they’d broken up.
Theroux who was a screen writer for such films as “Tropic Thunder” and “Rock of Ages” has also been in a number of t.v. shows and movies including the hit HBO series “Sex and The City” and the movies “Zoolander” and “American Psycho.” Most recently, Theroux co-starred with Aniston in Wanderlust, which hit theaters in February.
He seems stable and funny and cute and a good match for Jen. Aw, smile. So smiling.
It's easy to be dismissive of the cornucopia of shotgun weddings (and divorces), fairytale ceremonies and hush-hush affairs of stars with whom we can hardly relate.
But who can't identify with a girl-next-door, or even more directly, a person who’s tried love, been scorched and, with hope, tries again? Due to Aniston’s celebrity, her relationship travails have been no secret: A five year marriage to Brad Pitt, a brief connection with Vince Vaughn, and a year dating singer John Mayer.
And perhaps it was the
Rachel-ness of Aniston we came to know on ‘Friends’ that made many a-fan welcome her into their dream celebrity circle (She’s not catty, or self-absorbed, or deluded, etc.) and silently hope many good things for the star.
She’s picked up the pieces every time, freshened up that iconic face-framing coif of hers, kept the good face and kept it movin.’ (Like many of us have to do in real life, everyday.)
“Having experienced everything you don’t want in a partner over time, it starts to narrow down to what you actually do want,” Aniston told InStyle earlier this year. “As I get older, I realize what qualities are important in love and what suits me. And what I won’t settle for.”
Jennifer, your fan base and the outliers in your audience,
so hear you on that, excited that love does come more than once and that in the journey getting there, there is not only growth and a sort of preparation to recognize what love is and isn’t, but also a courage and openness to experiencing it, again, be it in obscurity or out in the public eye.
Us Weekly, apparently sees this latest news as huge, offering a timeline of the couple’s connection up to this point, when a rep for Theroux told
People, the actor had an amazing birthday Friday, “receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston accepted his proposal to marriage.”
