Putting a roof over our heads is clearly the top priority of home repairs.

Homeowners spend $359 billion in home repairs between 2009 and 2011, according to the census.

Of those, roofing ranked as the top expenditure at $43.7 billion.

Adding a garage is the most single costliest project at about $15,000, with kitchen remodel next at $5,000.
