last year's cook-off
The firefighter challenge is over, but the steak cook-off continues in downtown Tulsa Saturday. Tickets are still on sale.
Tim Smallwood and the Tulsa Fire Department's administration won the challenge, beating out two other teams of firefighters.
The cook-off is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 501 S. Cincinnati Ave. Two blocks of downtown Tulsa are blocked off while the teams compete.
This is the fourth year for the event which fills downtown with the smell of sizzling steaks.
Tickets are $20, and guests can enjoy hors d'oeuvres, inflatable slides for the kids, motorcycle and car shows, and live music. The sit-down dinner with all of the fixings for ticketholders starts at 5:30 p.m.
This year, the University of Tulsa football and basketball teams plan to be at the event so fans can get autographs.
Proceeds from this year's event will fund community garden projects in the Tulsa area as well as education for low-income households on the importance of incorporating fresh produce into their daily diets.
