Flaming Lips finally have world premiere dates for the “Yoshimi” musical. In the works since 2007, “
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots,” directed by
Des McAnuff, will defeat the evil robots Nov. 6-Dec. 16 at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.
The production will include music from the groundbreaking 2002 album, as well as a selection of hits from the albums “
The Soft Bulletin” and “
At War with the Mystics.”
McAnuff is director emeritus at the playhouse, where he directed more than 30 productions of Shakespeare and other classics, new plays and musicals over 18 years, the venue’s official website shows.
