Some folks are trying to focus on Bedlam already but the reality is Oklahoma State has much on the line at Iowa State this week.
An OSU victory would guarantee the Cowboys no worse than a tie for the Big 12 Conference football championship and would likely put O-State in a BCS bowl regardless of what happens in Bedlam.
Of course, at 10-0 and No. 2 in the BCS standings, OSU has higher goals.
However, for a team that most, including many local media, felt wouldn’t contend in the Big 12, OSU has been far better than expected.
Now, with just two games left, the Cowboys can accomplish much with a victory at Iowa State.
For starters, it would give OSU an 11-0 record, tied for most victories by an OSU team in history.
A victory at Ames would leave Oklahoma as the only team left with a chance to tie the Cowboys for the league title.
Finally, it would appear the only way for OSU to not get an invitation to a BCS bowl would be to lose its last two games. So, a victory at ISU would pretty much guarantee OSU a spot somewhere in the BCS bowl structure.
Of course, a victory at Iowa State would most importantly keep OSU on target to the reach the BCS national championship game.
So, for the Cowboys, Bedlam can wait. Even if some media folks can’t.
