I know that flipping open the laptop and firing up Netflix is the least of comforts after a cramped flight or a full-body cavity search in a TSA line.
So when you open the browser and are informed that Wifi is only for paying customers, that layover becomes a little harder.
The guys over at Airfarewatchdog.com have
put together a handy chart on wireless internet costs at the nation and world’s largest airports.
Tulsa isn’t on the list (only the top 50 airports are), but TUL has offered free wireless internet through AT&T for a few years now. Those scoundrels down in OKC at Will Rogers World Airport only offer 20 minutes of wireless internet for free.
Some popular connecting destinations out of Tulsa, such as Dallas, Denver and Phoenix have free wireless internet as well.
Denver actually offers a premium wireless internet, which forces uses to watch a few commercial every 30 minutes or so. That seems more than fair in my humble opinion.
Both Houston airports are stingy with their web access, only allowing free access to look at flight information.
In related news, Southwest Airlines has been upgrading its fleet for Wifi, which includes some free access to videos, live television and some video access.
You still have to pay for web browsing, but its nice to kick back and watch some MLBTV or a few episodes of 30 Rock to pass the time.
It’s been a huge relief on two recent flights I took to the West Coast. Flights goes much faster with Tracy Jordan.
