In the
March 6 edition of
Rolling Stone magazine, the Charts page features the "
Local Favorites" feature with a roundup of the 10 top-selling albums ... from
Oklahoma City's uber-cool
Size Records. (!!!)
They are:
1. "The Scene of the Crime," Bettye LaVette
2. "The Outskirts of Deep City: Eccentric Soul," Various artists
3. "After the Ceiling Cracked," Pelican
4. "Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo," Rivers Cuomo
5. "Sex Change," Trans Am
Ya gotta read the mag to get the rest, natch.
On the cover: Jack Johnson. Favorite story: Killer interview with The Kinks leader Ray Davies!

In the March 2008 edition of Spin magazine, read an interview with New York's explosively popular buzz band Vampire Weekend. So young, so charming, so ... kinetic! ... Especially for a foursome of golf-sweater wearing Columbia students.
It's the first band in Spin's history to be featured on the cover without having a CD released. Don't worry, the self-titled debut is now out.

The March cover of Paste magazine boasts a sequined tribute to the Gloved One -- Michael Jackson -- and a look back at the 25th anniversary of his groundbreaking album, "Thriller."
My favorite story: "The Paste Faunomusicology Society Presents: A Field Guide to Animal Bands." Hilarious. Example:
RAVEONETTES (f)
Eyelinerea copenhageus
Behavior: Typically travel in pairs
Appearance: Known for their exquisite bone structure
Vocalization: Known to chirp uncontrollably when exposed to droning guitar washes and '60s girl-group melodies
Each issue of Paste includes a free compilation CD. Favorite track: "California Girls," by The Magnetic Fields. Other acts include: Goldfrapp, Zox, Maceo Parker, Seven Mary Three.
