The reign of "Hunted" at the top of the best-seller charts was short-lived. The novel by Tulsa authors P.C. and Kristin Cast dropped from No. 1 to No. 11 on the USA Today Best-Seller list for the week ending March 22.
Last week, the novel -- the fifth in the mother-daughter team's "House of Night" series -- debuted at the top spot on this list, and that compiled by the Wall Street Journal.
The movie tie-in edition of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" returned to the No. 1, according to USA Today, followed by four other titles by Meyer.
Both Meyer's books and the Casts' series are novels aimed at younger audiences, and deal with romance with a paranormal twist.
But the news for the Casts isn't all negative. The first four books in the "House of Night" series all made significant jumps up the USA Today list. "Marked" went from No. 24 to No. 16, "Betrayed" moved from No. 45 to No. 30, "Chosen" went from No. 61 to No. 36, and "Untamed" moved from No. 60 to No. 38.
UPDATE: The Wall Street Journal's best-seller list for this week has "Hunted" down from No. 1 to No. 5, with James Patterson's "Max" now at the top.
In fact, the first five spots on the WSJ list are occupied by books aimed at younger readers, including two volumes of the Stephenie Meyer series, and the latest in Jeff Kinney's
"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series. A total of eight of the 15 books listed as fiction best-sellers are "young adult" titles.
