It was fun to catch up with friends and family this weekend in Houston -- and good to have the opportunity to watch Tulsa play in person.
Here's a look at what we learned Saturday, with a heavy focus on the Golden Hurricane.
1. OK, I'm back on the TU championship bandwagon
I was pretty impressed with what I saw from Tulsa on Saturday, especially the final three quarters.
I know Houston is a shell of its 2011 self, but I still expected the Cougars to score a little and maybe make a game of things.
Instead, TU locked Houston's offense down, and the TU offensive line eventually wore the Cougars out.
You could make a good case that this was Tulsa's most complete performance of the year given the site, the competition and the Hurricane's inconsistency against lesser opponents earlier this season. Throw in the disappointing loss the week before at Arkansas, and this was an impressive bounce-back game.
One more win puts TU in the Conference USA title game, and if that win is against Central Florida next week, the championship will be played in Tulsa.
I like the Hurricane's chances a lot better after what I saw Saturday.
2. So long Robertson Stadium
Houston is playing its final season at Robertson Stadium, which will be torn down to make way for a new stadium to be opened in time for the 2014 season.
I wrote a little about this in Sunday's paper, but the general disrepair of Robertson should make Tulsa fans proud of what their school did with the renovations at Chapman Stadium.
Robertson underwent a really terrible renovation in 1999, and none of the subsequent upgrades for Major League Soccer or the University of Houston made it any better.
It's right to tear it down and start over. And it's nice Tulsa had the foresight to make its changes the right way several years ago.
But Golden Hurricane fans have a right to feel a little bitter that those renovations and a decade of winning didn't make Tulsa more valuable in conference realignment.
3. The new No. 1: Could it be Kansas State?
You could hear the gasps in the Robertson Stadium press box as Texas A&M hung on to beat No. 1 Alabama on Saturday.
The BCS usually has a way of working itself out, and maybe the Tide's loss this weekend is the latest example of that.
Kansas State is likely your new No. 1 when the BCS standings are released Sunday evening.
I still think Oregon and Notre Dame have a better chance of losing down the stretch than the Wildcats. But I wouldn't be surprised if two of the three unbeatens lose, putting Alabama back in the picture.
It will make for an entertaining final month of the season, even if our local teams aren't really part of it.
