May 2, all things music will explode from Oklahoma City, with a blowout celebrating
Another Hot Oklahoma Night: A Rock and Roll Exhibit, at the
Oklahoma History Center.
This exhibit will explore the Oklahoma rock 'n roll artists, radio stations, personalities, venues and fans that have called Oklahoma home. Beyond the facts of each story, the exhibit will show how growing up in Oklahoma affected the music.
These stories will be displayed in an "innovative style," said an official statement, "to encourage visitor participation and ensure that the visitor will take away a new perspective on the history of Rock and Roll in Oklahoma."
This exhibit will amaze even the most knowledgeable music aficionado, and the opening festivities will be the largest most fun-packed event since the opening of the History Center.
There will be 14 bands on three stages, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.:
- the rockabilly sound of the Oh! Johnny Girls
- the sweet renditions of Camille Harp
- the driving rock of Unmarked Cars
- the contemporary sounds of Crocodile
- the classic hits of Wes Reynolds
- the southern-rock tinged sound of John Moreland & the Black Gold Band. Its cover of "Endless Oklahoma Sky" was nominated for the Oklahoma Rock Song
- and more.
Family-friendly activities include Guitar Hero gaming, a tie-dye booth, a rock star makeover and costume contest for your favorite era in rock 'n' roll history and more.
There will even be a stage set up with all the trappings of a concert venue for photo opportunities.
All events are free with paid admission to the History Center.
Here's a promo video featuring Rocky Frisco, Flaming Lips, David Teegarden, All-American Rejects, Leon Russell, Hanson, Steve Ripley, Wanda Jackson and more, more, more.
