Giovani Bernard might be the next great running back. So could Kendall Hunter.

So last year I though Doug Martin was worth moving up in fantasy drafts and grabbing. This year, I did the same thing with Giovano Bernard.

Monday night, in just his second game, he broke out.

He's very Emmitt Smith like. But faster.

Yes, he only had eight carries. He only had one catch. But he had two touchdowns and looked like a starting running back. He's not that right now, but he will be. He gives this offense too many options.

Let's just call him what he is right now. A rookie with a great offensive line and a young team that plays smart. Those things helped an undersized Smith become the leading rusher of all time.

Another back in a great situation is Kendall Hunter. Right now, he's the backup in San Francisco. But Frank Gore is starting to look really normal. And when I say normal I mean slow. Hunter is someone who is faster and has a spark that Gore can't make happen again.

I mentioned Hunter earlier this year as someone who has something a lot of teams don't have - a coach who isn't afraid to sit a starter. He did it with Alex Smith and I think he might do it with Gore. I write this after picking up Hunter in all the leagues I'm in. He's a free agent in a lot of leagues. If opportunity and a coach willing to change doesn't move you, just remember he plays behind one of the best lines in football each week. I really think he's going to break out soon.

After seeing the 49ers on Sunday night, they will need a spark from someone soon. Get him before you have to battle everyone on the waiver wire.

In other news …

I think Michael Vick lasts another two weeks. Tops.

Julius Thomas had another touchdown in week 2, but he almost had two.

Tampa Bay's defense is making stars dull. Just ask Drew Brees.

Josh Gordon has served his two week suspension. Too bad Brandon Weedon may not be there to throw him his first ball. Weedon needs Gordon. It's tough to be good when you only have one receiver with hands on your team.
