Sometimes you eat something so good, you can’t keep it to yourself.

Have you tried the botana de carnitas at La Hacienda? Everyone I know is sick of my asking the question, so I’ll have to pester you.

The carnitas are perfection: a huge piece of crisp, smoky, perfectly seasoned pork that comes with thin corn tortillas and sliced limes.

I had eaten at La Hacienda, at 4518 S. Peoria Ave., next to the Tulsa Ballet headquarters, a few times. I liked it enough to go back, but not enough to brag about. But then I tried the carnitas.

It was the suggestion of the waitress – always a good idea, so long as the waitress tells you the truth – who said they were the best thing on the menu.

I haven’t bothered trying anything else since.

When I see other people at La Hacienda eating enchiladas or tacos, I think about asking them: “Have you tried the carnitas?”

But I know there’s no way they have, or else that’s what they would be eating.
