Is Miami really hot enough to be called the "Heat" and does Oklahoma City have enough thunderstorms to be called the "Thunder?"

I posed these questions to a state climatologist and will be back tomorrow in time for Game 1 of the NBA Finals to answer these and other sports weather-related questions in honor of our weather-themed championship.

In the meantime, test your own sports weather knowledge with this quiz:

1. The University of Tulsa is now the Golden Hurricane, but former coach Howard Acher wanted to name them the Golden __________, but alas, that nicked was taken at the time by Georgia Tech.

2. The NHL's Carolina franchise is nicknamed after this powerful tropical storm.

3. Tampa Bay's NHL team has this weather-themed nickname, which complements Oklahoma City's NBA team's nickname.

4. San Jose's Major League Soccer franchise has this nickname. Oklahoma's largest happened back in 1951 in Canadian County.

5. The WNBA's Seattle franchise did not move to Oklahoma with its NBA franchise, the Seattle Supersonics. Thus, it is still known as the Seattle ______.

6. The NBA has two hot-themed nicknames, the Miami Heat and the Phoenix _____.

7. The WNBA's Connecticut franchise has a singular nickname, the ____.

8. Miami's former WNBA franchise, the Miami ____, is Spanish and Portuguese for "sun."

9. The Iowa State University _________ are members of the Big 12 Conference.

10. The St. John's University ____ ________ are among the non-football members of the Big East Conference.

Answers:

1. The Golden Tornadoes. Read more on Tulsa and hurricanes (lower case) and the history of TU's nickname here.

9. Iowa State Cyclones.

10. St. John's University Red Storm.
