I do believe someone has the vapors.

That seems to be the idea Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has concerning women.

In a interview with CNN the former senator from Pennsylvania said about the recent decision to move women closer to the front: "If you're out there, for example, in a group, or just two people, and some people, because of women, have, as you know with respect to physical capabilities, they don't have the same requirements that men do in the military, and may be in a position if someone is injured, has to be brought back."
I’ll give you a minute to decipher that statement.
He then went on to say: , "I think that could be a very compromising situation, where people naturally may do things that may not be in the interest of the mission because of other types of emotions that are involved."

The he clarified that statement by saying that he was referring to men’s “emotions” while serving alongside women in combat.

Oh, that makes it better.

Never mind that women have come under fire, been killed, captured and beat up in places such as Iraq in the “non-combat” roles. I can’t recall any complaints from soldiers about serving alongside women in the field.

At last check, women in the military are expected to pass physical tests during training and learn to shoot a weapon.

The debate can go on all day about sending women into combat. But, for the life of me, I can’t think of any reason not to. Can they run as fast or lift as much as men. Some can, some can’t. Could a woman lift a wounded comrade onto her shoulder and get him or her to safety? Some could. Some couldn’t. Same for male soldiers. Can a woman shoot as accurately as a man? Yes.

Santorum also wants to rescind the order to allow gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military. He pointed out that the Israeli military doesn’t allow women on the front lines of combat. When it was pointed that the Israeli military also gays and lesbians to serve openly, Santorum wasn’t to go for that model.

Women have proved since World War II that they can compete with their male counterparts in the military. The former senator is worried about men’s emotions overcoming them when serving with women. Oh, c’mon. I would hope that a man in combat would be as emotionally attached to any person in his unit.

I suppose Rick is just worried about the safety of the womenfolk. Now, you ladies just go on into the parlor while the menfolk take care of the important business.

Sheesh.
