Very good news for OU athletics Wednesday: Generally, they're going above and beyond the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate standard.
(A refresher: The APR measues a school's average academic rating over a four-year period, based on athletes' eligibility and programs' retention. Fall below the 900 benchmark, schools run the risk of penalties. The latest figures released Wednesday covered 2007-11.)
OU football and men's basketball are well clear of the benchmark, with football trending upward to a current score of 970. The Sooners ranked third in the Big 12 Conference with their 970 football number, barely trailing Misouri's 972 and Kansas' 971.
Women's basketball and women's cross country scored a perfect 1000.
