It's never too early to campaign for the Heisman Trophy

Northern Illinois sent out this Jordan Lynch lunch bag to promote their quarterback for postseason awards.

In past seasons we've received a Collin Klein band aid box and a Robert Griffin III baseball card as promotional items.

Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch may not win this year's Heisman Trophy, but it won't be for lack of trying.

It's not unusual for the schools of potential award candidates to send out interesting items to generate awareness.

(Check out the photo of the Collin Klein band aid box and Robert Griffin III baseball card we've received in past seasons).

But it's a little unusual for the hype to start almost a month before the season begins.

The folks at Northern Illinois aren't wasting any time, sending national college football writers a Jordan Lynch lunch bag and notebook this week.

But with news coming out that current Heisman winner Johnny Manziel could soon find himself in NCAA jail, the timing seems almost too perfect.

With the lunch bag, the school is kicking off a "Lunch with Lynch" weekly YouTube.com show. (Check it out at JordanLynchfor6.com).

Lynch threw for 3,138 yards and 25 touchdowns and rushed for 1,815 in 2012, leading the Huskies to a 12-2 record and a BCS bowl game. Lynch, however, threw for 176 and rushed for 44 yards (on 23 carries) in the Orange Bowl loss to Florida State.
